Wednesday 20 January 2016

I had the pleasure of attending a campaign training session with Zac Goldsmith MP organised by the Patchwork Foundation as part of their #GetInvolved2016 series of events. As I had already met Sadiq Khan MP at the Dare to Dream launch in November last year, it seemed logical to engage with another London mayoral election candidate with whom I not yet had the chance.
I've never been to any Conservative events, so it was interesting to see what things would be like. Upon entry into the tricky to find building for the Redbridge Chapter... A picture of Margaret Thatcher adorning the centre of the wall at the front of the room -  I was cracking up at how quintessentially Tory-esque it all was 
Campaigning 101
The most important person in the room, as we were repeatedly reminded was Nathan Parsad, Zac's Campaign Manager.
Air Politics: this is media - the stuff that we get from the internet newspapers, TV and radio etc
Ground Politics: door-to-door canvassing, holding events or debating in hustings

risk of complacency.
Personal aspiration and individualism
Light debate and half-finished disagreement over the environment and the EU.
Councillors party locally through Redbridge Conservatives. Compassion

The atmosphere unlike any other personal relationships over networking

As I like to say, time to meet those resolutions I set in 99'... I did consider avoiding this cliché but research shows that open declaration increases my chances of success 😁

Tech -> Code every day, build 10 projects focusing on mainly front-end development and tell people about them.

Business -> Launch a web design & digital marketing agency and start an online business.

Aesth -> Make a short documentary or produce an arts project within any medium to be shared.

Edu -> Learn Mandarin to the level where I can comfortably hold a 15 minute conversation entirely in Chinese.

Poli -> Set up regular online+offline operations for 'Politicks' to encourage youth political engagement.

1/2 WAYPOINT: March
CHECKPOINT: June

I will endeavour to make these goals SMARTa, create milestones and identify steps; consistency to keep getting 1% better by meeting weekly targets is the key. (Alongside using the right tools to build habit routines plus getting help from support networks for 10X motivation aka mentors*coach*mastermind!)

Putting myself out there
For the 1st post on my long overdue blog, I will start by explaining le title & themes. There are three reasons I chose the former; one because I am someone who wants to try and live to the fullest i.e. never coast, two my friends' nickname for me is Nay-Nay and, I want this to be a space of rebirth where I reflect anew each time with gratitude as I share my experiences of the human condition.
Now regarding the topics, part of the thing causing me to feel impeded from beginning was that I didn't know what I wanted to focus on writing about, so I've whittled down my interests (initially was at seven) down to five. By doing it all, it is my hope that I eventually discover my elusive niche. ***
